The Moriah School Early Childhood celebrated Thanksgiving in so many unique ways.
The nursery classes focused on learning about corn in honor of Thanksgiving. They culminated their unit with a “tiras” celebration. They read the book “Tiras Cham” together and celebrated with popcorn and corn cookies!
In conjunction with the unit on Thanksgiving, Moriah kindergarten students learned all about pilgrims. After reading the book “Molly’s Pilgrim,” they understood that pilgrims are not just the people who came to America from England. Pilgrims are any people who come to a new country in search of religious freedom or political freedom. Teachers discussed this concept with the children and found out that many of the children have pilgrims in their own families! The children researched who in their family is a “pilgrim.” They then brought in a picture and a short story about their pilgrim. It takes all kinds of pilgrims to make a Thanksgiving.
The week of festivities concluded with a pow-wow celebration for the entire early childhood. The students got up and danced with Morah Kelly, heard a Thanksgiving story from Morah Divsha and enjoyed some yummy Thanksgiving treats!
