Moriah Visits Philadelphia And Lancaster

The seventh graders had a blast on their Philadelphia trip this past Monday and Tuesday. They started their journey at Constitution Hall where they were joined by “Benjamin Franklin,” who bore a striking resemblance to their school principal. (It’s a shame that Rabbi Alter was nowhere to be found and missed out on this historic visit.) “Benjamin Franklin” led us on a walking tour of some major sites of Philadelphia, including the Liberty Bell. They then stopped for lunch at Franklin Square Pavilion where they played a round of mini-golf. Next, they went to Mikveh Israel Synagogue, which was established in the 1700s. They had the chance to hear from the rabbi of the shul about the congregation, see the beautiful Sifrei Torah and daven Mincha. (At that point, Rabbi Alter reappeared, but “Benjamin Franklin” mysteriously vanished.) Students had the opportunity to run up the “Rocky Steps” while Mrs. Kastner blasted music from the iconic film. They then explored the varied exhibits at the Franklin Institute. They ended the day with bowling, where students got to munch on snacks, bowl with Rabbi E., play cards with Ms. Rotman and view an exciting and highly-anticipated Knicks game on TV. The next day, at the Amish Experience, they took a buggy ride to an Amish farm where they saw adorable farm animals. They also watched a multi-sensory film about the Amish lifestyle and history. The Amish gift shop was a big hit too! They then travelled to Valley Forge where the history of the American Revolution came to life. The students enjoyed this trip that allowed them to bond with their classmates and unite as a grade. The memories made will last a lifetime! Thank you so much to Morah Shoshana for planning the trip and to the teachers who chaperoned!
