In a nail-biter of a game, the MTA Lions took down the TABC Storm 3-2 in walk-off fashion.
TABC struck first in the top of the fourth with a two-RBI double, putting them up 2-0. But MTA answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Captain Isaac Kantowitz drew a walk, and Gavi Engel came in to pinch run. He wasted no time, swiping second and third. After another walk to captain Mark Rosenstock, Aitan Goldberg hit into a fielder’s choice, making it runners on first and second with two outs. Yehuda Klavan came up clutch with a single over the infielders heads, cutting the lead to 2-1. Then, Goldberg stole third, and when the ball got past the third baseman, he took off for home, tying the game at 2-2.
Fast forward to the bottom of the seventh—Klavan got hit by a pitch, and Engel once again came in to pinch run. He stole second, then swiped third on ball four to Yosef Rosenberg. With the winning run just 90 feet away, Andi Richman walked to load the bases. That’s when Chaim Simon hit a slow dribbler to the pitcher, and Engel raced home to score the winning run in walk-off style.
MTA’s starting pitcher, Eytan Richman, was dominant, going the full seven innings with seven strikeouts and only two runs allowed. His performance kept MTA in it, setting up the late-game heroics.
A huge win for the Lions, and an electric way to end it.
