MTA Juniors and Seniors were privileged to be able to join YU students in the Strauss Center, to hear from the Honorable Moshe Silk, Former United States Assistant Secretary of the Treasury. He shared his story of how he got to working in the United States government.
He spoke to the students about growing up and working in a Chinese restaurant, which helped him to learn Chinese. He later used those skills to become a lawyer in Hong Kong for over a decade. After being a lawyer for several more years he had the opportunity to become the first Chassidic Jew to hold a senior position in a US administration under President Trump’s first term.
The Honorable Moshe Silk also spoke about how Hashem helped him along the way with maintaining his Yiddishkeit, and giving him the many opportunities that he had. He noted how important his presence was in his work, as he was setting an example for all Jews and always making sure to make a kiddush Hashem.
The Honorable Moshe Silk credits his achievements to hashgacha pratis and hard work. He spoke about his struggles with learning Chinese, but how one thing led to another within his education in college, that eventually led him to becoming a successful lawyer.
