Track athletes from ten Yeshiva high schools in the NY-NJ area braved on-again off-again rain to take part in the 2025 MYHSAL Track and Field Championships, held at beautiful Riverside County Park in Lyndhurst, NJ. Team winners in the boys and girls’ divisions, respectively, were the RKYHS Cobras and the Frisch Cougars.
The MYHSAL track season, which consisted of four meets held throughout the metro area from March to May, attracted over 100 athletes, the largest participation level in the history of the conference.
RKYHS was led by Ilan Usdan, winner of the boys’ 1600-meter run, and Josef Margolin, who was runner-up to DRS star Josh Zimmerman in each of the 100, 200, and 400 meter events. Zimmerman, who led DRS to an overall second-place finish, also won five races in prior meets and was named the boys’ Most Valuable Player.
In Frisch’s most impressive event leading to their victory, Emily Silver, Ziva Goldstein, and Gabi Davis pulled off a clean sweep of the top 3 places in the girls’ 800-meter run. Silver also won the 1600 by a whopping 18 seconds over the runner-up. Liyora Marmar of SAR took home the gold in the 100, 200, and 400, leading SAR to a second-place team finish. Marmar won the 100-meter event in all four MYHSAL meets of the season and was voted girls’ MVP.
Coaches also identified Aden Ifraimov (TABC), Sammy Adler (DRS), and Gabriella Bohm (Ma’ayanot) as the 2025 Most Improved Athletes, based on the upgrades in their performances since 2024.
In addition to the Spring track season, the conference also holds cross-country races during the Fall. Other local Yeshiva high schools that would like to join are always welcome. Competitive running is a physical, mental and spiritual endeavor, fostering the desirable qualities of dedication, discipline and leadership. It is also a sport which welcomes all participants, regardless of competitive level.
