Last week, Ms. Kook’s 11th grade classroom transformed into a courtroom. The defendant on trial for murder in the first degree was Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby. The students were divided into prosecution and defense teams and had three class periods to develop opening and closing statements, submit various forms of evidence and develop witness testimonies. The honorable Ms. Kook presided as the judge of the court case. After heated direct and cross-examinations, as well as convincing presentations of textual evidence by both sides, the juries unanimously voted and shared their results with the legislative teams.
