NYU Professor Addresses TABC Juniors and Seniors

On Thursday, December 19, noted historian and author and chair of the history department at NYU, Dr. Edward Berenson, addressed the juniors and seniors at TABC. Dr. Berenson is the author of the recently published book, “The Accusation: Blood Libel in an American Town.” Cary Reichardt, chair of the TABC history department, read the book months ago and wrote the author an email inviting him to come and speak to TABC students, hoping that he would agree. As she introduced Dr. Berenson, she noted that at this time of increasing antisemitism in America, it was particularly important that TABC students hear his talk, and realize, that sadly, “it can happen here.” Dr. Berenson pointed out to students the many similarities between the anti-Semitic rhetoric and characterizations of Jews from the Middle Ages to the anti-Israel, and anti-Semitic propaganda circulating today. He urged students to remain vigilant in order to combat the forces of hatred and so that “Never Again” is more than just a slogan.
