(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) Bris Avrohom’s Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky was invited by Nicholas Scutari, president of the New Jersey Senate, to give the invocation at the Senate’s 2024 opening session.

Rabbi Kanelsky reflected upon the horrific occurrences that Israel has been facing since October 7. He proposed ideas to help the devastation and to prevent such evil. He announced to the lawmakers gathered that all should designate a time daily to praise and thank God, ideally in the morning. When there is belief and appreciation for God, the whole society lives in a different spirit. He then demonstrated by pulling out a US dollar bill that the only currency in the world that has the declaration “In God we trust” is that of the US. At that moment he took the dollar and placed it in the tzedakah box before all the senators, indicating the importance of giving to charity. He also strongly stated the importance for each person to follow the seven Noahide Laws.

He concluded, with a blessing to the lawmakers, that God grant them health and good cheer. He then reminded them that the takeaway from this must be to live with belief in God, to regularly give charity, and to implement the seven Noahide Laws as routine in the state of New Jersey.
