Ramaz upper schoolers received a visit from Israeli high school students. The visiting students, from two Israeli high schools, have dedicated a portion of their United States trip to come to Ramaz and learn about life for Jewish-American teenagers.
Ramaz students showed them around their neighborhood with a visit to the Met, an ice cream snack, dinner at a student’s home, and karaoke. The next day, the Israeli students got a taste of life in the Ramaz building, which included a hands-on science lab, challah baking during lunch and a music class about the Beatles. During their welcome assembly, everyone broke into small groups with a few students from each school and discussed a range of topics. They spoke about their personal lives, like their hobbies and daily routines, as well as more serious subjects, including what it means to be a Jew in different parts of the world. They also discussed the war in Israel, especially how it has affected the Israeli and American students similarly and differently. They asked each other questions and bonded, learning from their differences as well as what they have in common. Finally, they ended their trip with an adventure to Bravo Pizza and Times Square.
