RPRY Eighth Grade Begins ‘Names, Not Numbers©’ Program

Rabbi Peach Raymon Yeshiva’s eighth grade class launched the start of their “Names, Not Numbers©” year long program. “Names, Not Numbers©” is an interactive, multi-media Holocaust project created by educator Tova Fish-Rosenberg.

To officially begin this inspiring program, the class took a trip to visit the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City where they were able to see and learn about the Jewish life before, during and after the Holocaust. The students participated in hands-on workshops before going on guided tours in the museum. Using photos and artifacts from that era, the workshops engaged the students to think about life and society revolving around the Holocaust. While on the guided tour, the docents took the students to the new Auschwitz exhibit, “Not long ago. Not far away.” The students got to see over 700 original objects and over 400 photographs, documenting how Auschwitz became what it was and what life was like in the camp.

The students were inspired and moved by this initial trip and they look forward to continuing this amazing program throughout the year.
