RYNJ Students + Math = Fun

What happens when the school combines almost 100 second graders, 2,500 dominoes and 1,184 jelly beans? RYNJ Second Grade Family Math Night, of course. This past week, the lunchroom at RYNJ was booming with fun and interactive math games. Parents and grandparents challenged their second graders to play three entertaining games that were facilitated by the school’s second grade teachers. Using colorful beads, dominoes and double-dice to play, who would have guessed they would be working on their reasoning ability and critical thinking skills and honing their problem-solving abilities all at same time? Let’s not forget the famous jelly bean jar estimation contest. Mazal tov to Elchanan Brandstatter from 2B3, who had the closest estimation in RYNJ history and took home the grand prize of an entire jar of jelly beans. (There were 1,184 total jelly beans and Elchanan guessed 1,150.) A jar of jelly beans wasn’t the only parting gift. All of the students took home a set of double-dice and memories that will last a lifetime.
