SAR HS Civic Spirit Club Teaches Proper Political Terminology

As part of SAR High School’s new Civic Spirit Club, high school students and Mr. Paul went to SAR Academy last week to teach a group of younger students (sixth graders) some basics about common political terminology which is often misused or misunderstood. The high school students team-taught a lesson with Mr. Paul about the difference between left wing and right wing, liberal and conservative, and Republican and Democrat. The goal of the session was to make it clear that these terms cannot be used interchangeably, but also that it is possible to be partially one and partially another, even if that might feel counterintuitive, especially in today’s political climate. The sixth graders responded very well to the material and actively engaged in the session, showing that there is great hope for the future in terms of the next generation’s involvement in and understanding of civics. Congratulations to James G., one of the active members of the club, and to Eyal S. and Chase F., founding presidents of the SAR High School Civic Spirit Club.
