BPY Newscaster Remembers RBG

“Ruth believed in women’s rights and helping the poor. She was born in New York. Her only sibling died at age six. She said she wanted to be a singer but instead she went to law school and graduated first in her class in 1959. Even with her good grades she could not find a job because she was a girl and Jewish. She had a lot of medical problems but she kept on working. Ruth was the second woman to be a Supreme Court Justice. She died on September 18, 2020.”

Written by Sara Wenig and reported to the third grade during Current Events.

In other classes, the students read related articles and discussed RBG’s accomplishments and spoke about the following quotes:

“Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true.”

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

“Be your own person. Be independent.”
