Frisch Athletics Adapts and Thrives

This past Sunday, Yeshivat Frisch had its first full Sunday of athletics this year—what a great feeling! When schools went into lockdown last March and championships and seasons were canceled, it looked like Frisch might not be able to offer athletics this fall. The school leadership was heartbroken at this prospect, and determined to think outside the box to make sure that every student would have an opportunity to participate in a sport that they feel passionate about. Looking at the school’s 14-acre grounds, school staff realized they could utilize every inch of what the beautiful campus has to offer, from the large track to the softball and soccer fields. The outdoor tennis and basketball courts became the perfect place to relocate volleyball and floor hockey. Not only was the campus maximized, but a Frisch community member even extended an invitation to use her outdoor pool so that the girls swim team would not be disbanded this season.

The amazing coaches at Frisch have gone above and beyond to prepare for the unique circumstances and conditions by being flexible, creative and passionate about coming up with ideas, in order to make sure athletics is still available—safely, with distancing and when needed with masks. Thanks to the efforts of coaches and students, Frisch Sports is up and running—from baseball, basketball, outdoor soccer, volleyball, floor and ice hockey teams to track, fencing, tennis, swim and lacrosse. Even the wrestling coaches have come up with an amazing plan for non contact, safe practices. The athletes remain hopeful that the Yeshiva League will be able to continue this fall, and if not then come springtime. Go Cougars!
