The Idea School Hosts Virtual ‘Exhibition Of Student Learning’

On Tuesday, January 12, The Idea School hosted its first Exhibition of Student Learning of the 2020/2021 school year. The exhibition was masterfully done digitally and allowed for a record crowd of over 150 guests to hear the students present their work and thoughtful creations. Junior and sophomore students presented their key projects such as American Democracy in Humanities, Democracy in Biblical Times through the immersive study of Sefer Nechemia in the Beit Midrash, and the study of zoonotic diseases in Biology. The freshmen prepared a dvar Torah that focused on Pardes, a way of understanding pesukim in the Torah through literal, mystical and other types of interpretations. In addition, they showcased their projects on ancient civilizations in Humanities and biographies of continents in Earth and environmental science. Finally, all grades presented passion projects which they created and developed in a course called Inquiry. In this project, students chose a self driven passion project to work on or skill they wanted to advance in. Students began by writing up a project proposal, learned how to set smart goals and created a four week plan to meet their project goals for exhibition. Categories that students worked on included engineering, woodworking, music, photography, drawing and 3D design.

Exhibition is a unique feature of The Idea School. Coming at the end of a semester, it showcases what students have learned and accomplished over the course of that time, including content they’ve mastered, skills they’ve developed, discoveries they’ve made about themselves and ways they saw their learning connected to the world. One can view the projects from the exhibition at www.theideaschoolexhibition2021.com.
