Ma’ayanot is one of 45 schools nationwide to win a Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in the “High School Magazine” category for the 2020 edition of its literary journal, “Sambatyon.” Sambatyon is the name of a legendary river which both protected the ten lost tribes and prevented the people from leaving their land, and as such was particularly resonant for our students in 2020. Last year, even as Covid presented emotional, physical and logistical challenges, students became more creative than ever, channeling their emotions into producing writing and visual art. “Sambatyon” is proud to have served as a home for student expression at Ma’ayanot, and as a means to share that expression with the community, since 1998. Ma’ayanot is honored by the recognition of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and will participate in a virtual Crown Awards ceremony on Friday, March 19, 2021.
