TABC Welcomes Sephardic Sefer Torah in Lively Celebration

Last Wednesday, TABC was privileged to accept a beautiful new Sephardic Torah, dedicated by Daisy and Alberto Attar and family. The sofer was on hand to finish the actual writing of the sefer Torah in the TABC beit midrash, allowing family members, friends and staff the opportunity to assist in completing this milestone mitzvah. Once completed, the sefer Torah was brought outside and was met by excited TABC students and staff eagerly awaiting to accompany the Torah to its new home. The crowd was addressed by Rabbi Chaim Jachter, rabbi of the Sephardic minyan at TABC, who pointed out that not a single letter is altered in Sephardi vs. Ashkenazi Torah and how amazing it is that even though some customs may be different and the Torah itself looks different on the outside, on the inside, we are all the same Torah-loving Jewish nation. The simcha kept rolling with music and dancing under the chuppah as the crowd followed along around the parking lot and up to the beit knesset, where the dancing continued along with the other TABC sifrei Torah. The event concluded with a special seuda including Sephardic foods as a nod to the origins of the Torah. The Torah was inducted to the TABC Sephardic minyan the very next day. Mabrook!
