The eighth graders at WTA attended their first Better Together event last week. Better Together is a nationally recognized leadership program for teens, and WTA is fortunate to once again be partnering with the Young Israel of New Rochelle’s Ruach program. The students met with their senior citizen buddies and they started getting to know one another. The group enjoyed a delicious lunch together and listened to twin brothers Henry and Bernard Schanzer—who were born in Belgium in 1935—share their story of escape starting in 1940 through to their immigration to the U.S. in 1946, along with amazing pictures, including their beautiful families today. It was a compelling and unique experience to share with new friends. WTA is proud of the polite and respectful way the eighth graders conducted themselves throughout the program. They are looking forward to calling their buddies before Shabbat, and to their next event together.
