Tenafly Chabad Academy

This past Thursday, April 28, to commemorate Yom HaShoah, Tenafly Chabad Academy students in grades five through eight had the privilege of hosting Susan Terman, a second generation Holocaust survivor, as their guest speaker. Both Terman’s parents were Holocaust survivors. Her mother in particular shared many stories with her daughter throughout her lifetime. Her mother lived to be 92 years old until she passed away in 2017. Susan held on to those stories until a couple of months ago, when she collaborated with her brother-in-law, Philip Terman, to write down her mother’s memories and stories in a memoir. Philip, an English professor, and a poet was able to convert the stories into beautiful and powerful poems that bring their mother’s memories back to life. Susan, who just completed the memoir, came to share her mother’s stories in person and brought some of her mother’s belongings to show the students. our school and share some of the poems, stories, and memories with our students and faculty. The students were moved and inspired.
