In honor of Yom Hazikaron, The Idea School students heard from Amit Ashkenazi, an Israeli tech worker currently relocated to New York City. Amit shared his personal experiences in the IDF as a trainee, commander and a soldier in combat, and reflected with the students on what motivated him to serve his country.

The Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration started with the 11th graders sharing the learning they’ve done about Israel’s modern history, then included activity stations where students got to master shakshuka making, watch “Hummus the Movie,” and decorate graham crackers in Israeli themes. It ended with, of course, a yummy falafel lunch! Happy 74th birthday, Israel!
