The Idea School Prepares Seniors for Internships

The first senior class of The Idea School spent their last week of classes in fun and meaningful ways. As part of their final assignments, seniors delivered their last Presentations of Learning to the faculty, thoughtfully reflecting on their high school years in terms of their growth and accomplishments and future goals. The seniors also engaged in a series of workshops to prepare them for their next stages of life—their internships next month, their gap years and college. As part of the week’s activities, they heard from a college student who will be graduating from NYU’s Tisch Institute for Global Sport this May. He spoke about how a project-based class in college landed him his first job because of the skills it teaches that are needed for the workplace such as the ability to research on one’s own, take initiative and communicate. These are all skills that are stressed and are a daily part of life at The Idea School. The seniors also prepared for their internships by learning about resume building, writing cover letters and business communication skills. The week of senior workshops ended with shoutouts, an Idea School tradition and a lunch from Grand and Essex. The seniors began their internships which take place throughout the month of May and across a variety of industries such as entrepreneurship, medicine, finance, marketing, real estate, art curation, operations and more!
