MTA Honors Graduation Awardees

Aaron Sisser of Queens, is co-valedictorian. Throughout his four years at MTA, Aaron has enjoyed many great classes and shiurim, as well as many extracurricular activities in school.

Aaron served as editor-in-chief of the Academy News, editor-in-chief of the inter-Yeshiva Dvar Torah publication Kol HaNearim, editor-in-chief of the Israel Report publication and as a contributor and editor to the MTA dvar Torah publication Shema Koleinu. He was also an active member on many school teams, including the Tennis Team, College Bowl Team, Chess Team and Debate Team. He participated in the Yeshiva University National Model United Nations and won Best Delegate in his committee in 12th grade. He was part of many academic programs at MTA including “Names Not Numbers©,” the Honors College and the Yeshiva Fellowship. He was also a member of the Arista National Honors Society at MTA, where he served as a peer tutor and as the writer of the school bylaws. He also served as a Cub2Lion Mentor to younger students.

He has achieved the status of a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, has been named an AP Scholar with Distinction, has won the Five Towns Jewish Times Student Journalism Award, and has won the Saint Michael’s College Book award. He looks forward to attending Yeshivat HaKotel and after that going to the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors program at Yeshiva University. He has also been accepted into the YU/Albert Einstein College of Medicine Scholars Program, which grants him acceptance to the medical school upon completing his studies at Yeshiva University.

Gavriel Barber of Teaneck, is co-valedictorian. Gavriel has truly enjoyed his years at MTA, where he made incredible friends and formed close relationships with rebbeim and faculty members. He is grateful to all of his teachers for their encouragement and support.

During his four years at MTA, he was a member of the Arista National Honors Society, and was active in its peer tutoring program. He was also a member of Debate Club, Yeshiva Fellowship, and Honors College and has regularly contributed to the Shema Koleinu Torah publication. He was honored with the prestigious Bausch and Lomb Award and is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

He plans to study at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh next year, followed by the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program at Yeshiva University.

Benny Cohen, from Teaneck, will make the Siyum on Masseches Gittin at this year’s commencement on behalf of all the seniors who completed the masechta.

Benny has enjoyed and gained from the many opportunities afforded to him by MTA and Yeshiva University. He was the president of the Arista Honors Society and recipient of the YU Torah U’Madda book award this year. Benny truly enjoyed the opportunity to take college courses at Yeshiva University and truly appreciates this unique component of the MTA experience.

Benny is extremely grateful to MTA for providing him with exceptional rabbeim, whose rigorous efforts helped him strengthen his learning skills and yiras shamayim. They patiently answered his endless questions, and through their warmth, dedication, wisdom and passion for in-depth Torah study fostered a special environment at MTA which enabled him and his friends to thrive. Benny is excited to study at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh in Eretz Yisrael next year, followed by attending Yeshiva University.
