Last week, New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal participated in one of Shefa’s seventh grade history classes. Shefa students’ goal is to begin a conversation with local government on how New York City might memorialize and honor the victims of the New York City Draft Riots, which took place in the 1860s and has largely been forgotten.
