Shomrei Torah of Fair Lawn Bat Mitzvah Program Culminates With Inspirational Banquet

Shomrei Torah of Fair Lawn held its bat mitzvah program for mothers and their 11 and 12 year old daughters. The group learned once a month for nine months about significant and inspiring women in Jewish history; from biblical characters to the dark ages, modern history and recent days. The girls learned about the historic figures, their characteristics, challenges and contributions.

The curriculum was the Matan program, taught by Ayelet Jarashow, the youth director of the shul.

In the beginning of one lesson, the mothers wrote letters with blessings for their daughters and they received them on the last day of the program.

As a culmination of this project, they enjoyed an end of year banquet celebrated by the participants and their female guests. Jarashow, as well as Rabbi and Rebbetzin Markowitz, spoke and shared words of Torah about the importance of women in Judaism. Each girl presented a project about a woman who inspired her or was significant to her. There was also a guest visitor, Senior Rebbetzin Shevi Yudin, who came to listen to the presentations and support the young girls on their new journeys.

Each girl received a certificate of completion of this program.
