YMSSA Regular Season Wrap-Up

Monday, February 10th, will mark the close of the first regular season of the Yeshiva Middle School Sports Association (Y.M.S.S.A) 7th and 8th grade basketball. The league, under the leadership of Commissioners Dov Elefant and Dovey Forman, is the competitive basketball and hockey home of 18 local yeshivot.

Y.M.S.S.A is divided into divisions based on age and gender: 7th and 8th grade boys and 7 th and 8th grade girls.

In the 8th grade boys division, Moriah has been in first place all season, with only one loss to a surging Yavneh team. Moriah finishes the season against a dangerous Noam team and Yavneh finishes against the #1 team in the west conference, Hillel.

In the 7th grade boys division, Moriah is the hottest team riding a nine game winning streak into the playoffs. Their only loss came in the season opener at the hands of RYNJ on a final second layup from RYNJ’s Dani Heideman. RYNJ enters the postseason with an identical 9-1 record splitting the home and away series with Moriah.

Seventh and 8th grade girls division, Moriah is once again in front but has two games remaining against the #2 and #3 teams (SAR and Yeshivat Noam).

The hockey league is under the joint auspices of the Hockey Association of Yeshiva Middle Schools. Moriah is once again atop the standings with only one defeat going into the post season, but SAR is undefeated and hosts JEC to end the season.

Since the season has not yet ended, the playoff picture and dates were unavailable at this printing, but they are sure to be exciting. If you missed out on this exciting season of yeshiva basketball, do not fret the 6 th grade league (boys and girls) is just beginning.
