Teaneck Doghouse Mother’s Day Sportstar of the Year: Chani Teigman

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize fitness instructor extraordinaire Carol (Chani) Teigman as this year’s Mother’s Day Sportstar of the year. For the past 12 years, Teigman has taught a variety of group fitness classes including indoor spin, high intensity interval training, abs and core classes and more. Teigman is an accomplished marathoner and tri-athlete, but perhaps her latest and greatest feat is coaching the Garden State Warriors team as they ready themselves for the Ohel Xtreme Challenge.

Teigman told the JLNJ, “I teach fitness because exercise grounds me and serves as my outlet for helping others stay healthy and push themselves out to their comfort zone. My goal as a teacher has always been and will always be to give my students that feeling of accomplishment and confidence. I have met some incredibly committed, loyal and dedicated special people along the way. Whether at Club Fit, Flywheel or The Gym, I am continuously inspired by their perseverance, development and persistence.”

We asked one Garden State Warriors member, what makes Teigman such a great motivator “It’s very simple—she preaches: Set a goal and beat that goal.”

In keeping with the Mother’s Day theme, we asked Teigman’s greatest trophies (her three children) a couple of questions about their Sportstar mom.

Sydney Teigman, age 15: My mom’s favorite sport is yeshiva league floor hockey. Before she competes she eats an egg white omelet with tons of egg whites and vegetables, followed by three cups of coffee. Her greatest athletic accomplishment is running the New York City Triathlon. The best part of having a sports mother is that I strive to do my best in all the sports that I participate in and to one day become even half as great of a mother and athlete as my mom.

Andrew Teigman, age 19: My mom’s favorite sport is hockey but her favorite athlete is Derek Jeter. My mom is a freak of habit and can be often found drinking a protein shake. Her greatest accomplishment so far is competing in the NYC Triathlon because she overcame her fear of swimming in open water. The best part of having a Sportstar mom is it fuels me to be the best person in sports and life that I can possibly be.

Jordan Teigman, age 22: My mom’s favorite sport is basketball and her favorite athlete is Eli Manning. Her pregame ritual is giving a fiery pump up speech. Her greatest accomplishment is running in the Miami Marathon and not missing her flight home later that day. The best part of having a Sportstar mom is that people have a conception of me as having athletic genes and I can get away with being a good athlete.

After fully immersing herself in the group fitness world, Teigman is launching 24CT Fitness, a program she describes as “the culmination of everything I have learned about group and individual training in a more intimate setting. 24CT. Fitness will allow me to combine the most effective aspects of Barre, HIIT, Bosu, abs and TRX into one awesome space. It will be customized to fit my client’s personal needs.”

24CT Fitness is on Instagram and the 24CT Fitness app is in the works.
