The Sportstar of the Week: Eddie Catton

The Jewish Link of New Jersey would like to recognize 17-year-old Eddie Catton as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 12th grade at the Ramaz School is coming off of another stellar year of MYHSAL Hockey. Catton’s Gretsky-esk scoring led the Rams varsity hockey team on an amazing run that came to an abrupt end. The Rams look forward to an epic championship game vs. DRS if and when the season resumes.

Eddie, congratulations on another great season. Who is your role model and why?

My dad. He supports me through thick and thin, he is an amazing person who I learn from every day. His commitment to his family and the Torah inspire me.

What is your favorite sport?

Hockey. I’ve been playing hockey for a long time, and it is my favorite thing to do. I like hockey more than other sports because there is more teamwork involved.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning three cups in a row in my summer ice hockey league.

What is your earliest sports memory?

Playing street hockey with my cousin in my backyard.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Artemi Panarin. He plays the game with so much energy, and is a team player. He was poor as a child, and was raised by his grandparents, but was able to persevere and emerge as one of the top players in the NHL.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Barkai Blizzards—winning our last game of the season to make the playoffs in my eighth grade, after going 0-10 in both sixth and seventh grade.

What is your pregame routine?

Listening to pump up music.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Watch Ranger games, take long naps and hang out with my friends.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

Chipping my front tooth after falling on roller blades as a child.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Being able to play with my best friends on a weekly basis.
