The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Galil Neuer

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize 14-year-old Galil Neuer as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Over the past three years, Galil has established herself as the Bo Jackson of yeshiva middle school athletics. She was the driving force behind a Yeshivat Noam Knights soccer championship, numerous Teaneck Baseball teams, countless MGBL teams and a starter on the Yeshivat Noam Knights basketball team that only lost one game in three seasons. (Editor’s note: the lone loss was in overtime and Neuer left the game with a twisted ankle during regulation.) This year, Neuer has taken her game to the Frisch School, claiming one of the few freshman spots available on this year’s JV basketball team. When asked about his former point guard, Yeshivat Noam coach Steve Gutlove told The Jewish Link, “Galil is the type of player every team needs, there is not a single thing she can not do on the court. She can shut down the league’s top scorer one night, distribute the ball with pinpoint passes another night and is always a consistent option if you need a basket (or 20). While all these are great attributes to have in a player, it is the smile that never leaves her face that sets her apart as a sportstar in my book. The simcha that she brings to everything she does from running the offense to pumping the team up is infectious. With Galil on the squad, the Frisch Cougars are not only going to have a dominant back court for years to come. They are also going to be led by a player who can even make suicides fun.”
