Prof. Howard Wasserman of FIU School of Law spoke at Prof. Ira Jaskoll’s Sports Analytics class at Lander College for Men about his research and his recent article “Are Jews Who Play Baseball on the High Holidays Really Cursed? We Ran the Stats.” He looked at 18 Jewish pitchers and 18 position players since 1966, and discovered that those who played in the playoffs did the same while their teams did poorly. When they did not play, their teams did better. His conclusion to the students is for the Jewish players to sit on Yom Kippur so the team does better.
