The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Jared Gutlove as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Jared is a rising eighth grader at Yavneh Academy. As a veteran of MGBL and multiple local flag football leagues Jared is looking forward to a year of competitive sports with his friends.

Jared, mazel tov on your bar mitzvah and congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the week. Who is your role model and why?

My Dad because he was really good at sports when he was my age (at least that’s what he tells me) and he inspires me every day. (Editor’s note: Yes, Michael Gutlove was and still is a very good athlete; a tri-captain for the first ever HANC Hurricanes varsity basketball team and featured as a Father’s Day Sportstar of the Week 2018.)

What is your favorite sport?

Football, because I love to run.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning MVP for my flag football league.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Saquon Barkley because he is fast.

What is your earliest sports memory?

Playing catch with my dad in the backyard.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Properly executing the Statue of Liberty trick play and scoring a touchdown to win a game.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

When my dad took me to my first football game, we sat near someone that got very drunk before halftime. The second half was a blowout but our section was laughing the whole time.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Hanging out or playing video games with my friends.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Sharing on social media.
