(BCFL) “What a fitting end to a thrilling inaugural season,” commented BCFL Co-Commissioner Rabbi Avi Rosalimsky. Sunday’s game displayed some of Bergen County’s best athletes, having a great time playing ball.

In the K1 division, the Miami Dolphins led by coach Michael Javitt, entered the playoffs as the number five team with only one win during the regular season. Coach Javitt and his Dolphins saved the best for the postseason, knocking off The Jewish Link Jets in round one and continuing on their winning ways to eliminate the No. 1 seeded Packers in the semifinals and the No. 2 Eagles in championship. The Eagles, were similarly coming off an exciting semifinals, overtime victory over the CoolKippahs Giants. When the smoke cleared there was only one team standing—your K1 Dolphins.

In the 2/3 division, the Chiefs capped off an undefeated season with two hard-fought games Sunday afternoon. The Chiefs bested the Steelers in a back-and-forth defensive matchup in the early game. After the Giants pulled out an impressive overtime win against the Rams, the championship matchup was set. All eyes were on the turf field as the two teams squared off. The rush defenses were stout, forcing both teams to air it out. In the end, the Chiefs were victorious. The Chiefs were led defensively all season by Yehoshua Barzideh as “the man in the middle’’ and Charlie Wiess, playing deep safety and nabbing interceptions. Nathan Perlmutter blitzed the QB, with Jonah Greenbaum making game-saving tackles and Solomon Obsfeld over center. Eli “Patrick Mahomes” Schneck ran the offense, calling out “Yeet” and “Omaha,” alongside David “Speedster’’ Siev juking out opponents and Liam Davis running the “Liam play.” Special thanks to high school freshman co-coach Avi Schneck for making sure that everyone had ample playing time and opportunities to play a variety of positions on offense and defense.

In the 4/5 division, the final week of the season saw the Broncos (5-2) playing the Giants (6-1) in one semi final game and the Chiefs (3-4) facing the Seahawks (6-1) in the other, with the winners playing the championship game immediately after. Despite being the lower seed, the Chiefs went into their game feeling confident, having handed the Seahawks their only loss of the season a few weeks earlier. The Seahawks’ Ben Levenbrown, who also had an interception later in the game, got his team on the board early with a 20 yard catch and run for a touchdown. On the Chiefs’ next drive, Coby Shatzkes had a pick 6 giving the Seahawks a 12-0 lead that they would never look back from, as they cruised to a 24-6 win. After the Giants shut out the Broncos 18-0, the stage was set for the top two seeds to face off for the championship in a game that went back and forth right up to the final whistle. On the first drive of the game, the Seahawks’ Noam Mirkhani threw a long touchdown pass to Zack Nelson. This score was answered by the Giants on their next drive and the game went to halftime tied 6-6. With eight minutes left in the game, Mirkhani added a receiving TD to his stat line, and after converting the extra point, the Seahawks held a 13-6 lead. Minutes later, the Giants scored to cut the lead to 13-12. On the extra point attempt that would have tied the game, Nelson intercepted the ball in the end zone and ran it back the full length of the field, stealing the point for the Seahawks and extending the lead to 14-12. This turned out to be the deciding play as the Giants were kept out of the end zone for the rest of the game and the Seahawks’ defense held strong to secure them the championship.
