Jewish Jordan Inspires Next Generation Athletes

(MDS Sports) On Sunday, March 20, Manhattan Day School basketball teams had the opportunity to meet with the accomplished Tamir Goodman. Tamir Goodman, often referred to as the Jewish Jordan, is well known for his talent on the basketball court and his inspiring message of Jewish pride and belief in Hashem. Goodman visited MDS for a basketball clinic where students on the junior varsity and varsity teams enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their skills and get pointers for improvement.

The JV and varsity teams also had the wonderful experience of hearing words of chizuk from Goodman about his commitment to Judaism while playing for the NCAA Division One Maryland Terps. After hearing moving stories of his loyalty to Shabbat observance and playing while wearing a kippah, the Mavericks were inspired to strive higher and grow both in their athleticism and their Yiddishkeit. “I learned that night it’s not what you play, it’s how you play it.” said sixth grader Josh K. Messages like these are perfect for MDS students who live and learn in a school culture that values growth in all areas. Making a Kiddush Hashem is absolutely part of the MDS way!

MDS mom Billie Zoldan. reflected “It was so nice to see the kids listening attentively as Tamir told stories of how his religious beliefs were seen as a strength and the support his teammates gave because they respected him so much!”

Thank you MDS Parents Council for providing the teams the opportunity to hear an accomplished athlete speak passionately about his Jewish pride and his love of basketball. This was an inspiring experience for all MDS student-athletes.
