The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Andrew Srulowitz

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Andrew Srulowitz as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Andrew is a senior at The Frisch School and the starting goalie for the MYHSAL varsity hockey champion Frisch Cougars. When asked about his goalie, Coach Yaakov Lisker told The Jewish Link, “In the Link’s preseason preview, the only player mentioned for Frisch was Andrew, who was noted as a potential X factor in the Cougars’ season. Andrew was determined from the beginning of the season to prove he could back stop his team to a championship. Andrew would work tirelessly in drills and scrimmage, working on stopping the best offense in the league. His ability to move laterally quickly, anticipate plays, track the ball and control rebounds all pushed everyone else that much harder to find ways to score. It’s one thing to work your hardest to make yourself better but when you make everyone else better that is the mark of a true champion. As his coach (and former goalie) I couldn’t be prouder.”

Andrew, congrats on the championship and for being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My role model is my father. He played goalie throughout high school; I wear #1 after him to carry the legacy.

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is hockey. It is the ultimate team sport. You need the full group at its best to win. You’re only as good as the sum of the parts.

What is your pregame routine?

I am very serious pre-game. Little talking, lots of stretching. I try to get locked in and focus on the game in front of us.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

My greatest sports accomplishment is winning the Yeshiva League championship this month. Whenever you play, the goal is to win and we did that as a team. We are all still excited by it.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

My favorite athlete is Tom Brady, no doubt the GOAT. Nobody exemplifies greatness more than Tom. Just a pure winner. No matter the situation, he always finds a way to come through when it mattered most.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory is winning the championship!! Lifting that trophy really is as great as you can imagine. All the hype is definitely true, and more so. The team really played selflessly and came together as one.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My earliest sports memory is playing in the backyard with my siblings. Whether it was basketball, hockey or having a baseball catch. That’s what comes to mind first.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

My favorite thing to do when I’m not playing hockey is to hang out with my family and friends, play Xbox and go out to eat and relax.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Best thing about being a sportstar is being able to share this with my team. Like I said above, hockey is a team sport and we needed everybody to get to this moment. I’m thankful for all of them and to be able to share this with the cougar nation.
