Teaneck’s Rafi Friedman Scores as YU Men’s Soccer Roars Past King’s College

The Yeshiva men’s soccer team netted four first-half goals to set the tempo as the Maccabees coasted to a 5-0 victory over King’s College at Fairleigh Dickinson University on Wednesday evening.

The host Maccabees took control of the game from the outset, breaking a scoreless tie just 2:05 into the game on a goal by Adir Alon. It was the first shot taken in the game by either team and the Maccabees capitalized after a Yeshiva corner kick was touched by King’s College, but then quickly taken away by Alon who scored the goal about 15 feet from the net. Minutes later, Itamar Ben David scored, at 12:07, after taking a pass by Aaron Braun and blasting it home from point blank range to make the score 2-0. During the latter stages of the first half, the visiting Lions were whistled twice for fouls inside the penalty box, leading to a pair of successful penalty kicks by the Maccabees. The first penalty kick was made by Daniel Amar at 27:29, the other by Ben David at 37:40.

In the second half, Yeshiva scored again when Rafi Friedman tapped a shot home at 67:19 for his first goal of the season.

The win by Yeshiva snapped a three match losing streak.

Yeshiva held an overwhelming 28-4 advantage on shots, including 18-2 in the first half and 10-2 in the second half. Alon fired a game-high five shots for the Maccabees, while Braun, Amar, and Ben David had four each. Maor Feinstein earned the shutout after stopping three King’s shots.

King’s College goalkeeper, Jacob Wright, made 10 saves for the Lions, several of which were spectacular to keep Yeshiva at bay during certain portions of the game.
