In the first of two exciting MGBL girls’ championship games, Freed Oil Co. defeated StateStreetSmiles.com 24-17 in OT in the 4th/5th grade division.

The game began as a defensive battle with the score 4-2 at the half and 9-4 after three periods with StateStreetSmiles.com in the lead. StateStreetSmiles.com was led early by Lea Jackson (4 points) and Ayelet Motechin (7 points) on both the offensive and defensive side while Leah Weinberger helped control the boards for Freed Oil Co. and Arianna Chesner manned the point. In the 4th and 5th periods the teams traded baskets and the game remained close. With approximately 1:30 left in the game Leebee Bendheim scored on a short jumper to bring Feed Oil within one point, but it was Chesner’s consistent play that helped force OT. Once the OT began, however, it was all Chesner, scoring eight of her game-high 22 points, earning her the game MVP.
