Ma’ayanot Hockey Heads to Championship, Still Undefeated

Athletic director Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls

First seed in Western Division, Ma’ayanot Hockey, played in the semi-finals last week against SKA, who is the first seed in the Eastern Division.

The first period was tense and frustrating as the Rapids failed to score any goals and SKA quickly knocked in two. At that point, the fans could do nothing but worry that the Rapids couldn’t come back. And then it got worse. When the second period began, SKA scored again. This could have been the last game of the season, and would have been a sad end for an undefeated year for the Rapids.

But, with less than four minutes to go in the 2nd, senior Jessie Levart scored the first goal for the Rapids. There was hope for the Rapids. With less than 20 seconds left in the second quarter, freshman Rebecca Malech knocked in the second goal for the home team.

For the third period, the Rapids came in with sniper-like focus and refused to let up. Senior captain Alex Fuchs, scored the third goal quickly. At 3:20 left in the third quarter, Fuchs had an NHL-style hit with her back to the goal. She ended the fourth quarter with a fifth for her team—a hat trick for Fuchs. Senior captain and goalie, Sarah Hiller, took away pressure from the defense so the offense could attack. The mental toughness of this team prevented them from giving up. They face the winner of Frisch vs. SAR in the championship.
