MTA Announced As Main Event Sponsor of Weiselberg Tournament

The Martin Weiselberg Memorial Tournament is proud to announce an exclusive main event sponsorship with the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy/MTA for the upcoming event. Since its inception, the tournament and its purpose as a fundraiser for Hatzalah have brokered sponsorships with businesses to help reach their yearly monetary goals. This will be the first time, however, in the nine-year history of the tournament, that the event will be sponsored by a yeshiva high school.

“MTA’s association with the tournament is a first for us and is exciting on many levels,” proclaimed event organizer Elliot Weiselberg. “It’s an honor to have a respected high school like MTA with a storied hockey program such as theirs supporting our event.” An original member of the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Hockey League, MTA, Yeshiva University’s high school for boys, is one of the most successful programs, having achieved eight varsity titles in the league’s 35 year span.

“When MTA approached me regarding the event, it felt appropriate, given how MTA has been well-represented over the years,” added Weiselberg. Of the nine tournament Most Valuable Player awards, three have gone to eventual Lions players—more than any other high school. These include current MTA head coach Noah Isaacs, who held the single-tournament scoring record until last year, and recent graduate Ami Rosenfeld, who won the award twice; two of his older brothers, Gabe and Eitan, each won All-Tournament team awards during their years of participation.

“We know how meaningful the tournament is to the kids, given how many of our students have participated and we are excited to be a partner in this great event and to help them reach their goals,” stated MTA executive director Joshua Jacoby.

“The fact that a high school would take an interest in a junior high school event, I feel is a testament to the hard work that has been put into the event, as well as to the level of popularity that the tournament has reached over the years,” Weiselberg stated. We hope that the connection between the Martin Weiselberg Memorial Tournament and MTA will help the event reach new heights on both the competitive and charitable levels, in our quest to aid Hatzalah. With MTA’s involvement, we are all but guaranteed that the event will be one that the children will enjoy and will also help us reach our fundraising goals in the process.”

This year’s tournament will take place on June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Yeshiva Har Torah in Bellerose, Queens. All funds raised will be donated to Hatzolah.
