(TABC sports) The TABC varsity basketball team competed this past weekend at the 31st annual Red Sarachek Tournament at Yeshiva University, the country’s premier tournament for Jewish high school basketball teams. After a very disappointing early exit from the Yeshiva League playoffs, TABC went into the tournament as the #5 seed out of 20 teams and were looking to make a splash. First up on their slate were the Berman Cougars from Maryland. While they were tested occasionally throughout the match, the Storm prevailed easily by a score of 63-51. Junior Eyal Kinderlehrer led all players with a double double of 37 points and 17 rebounds. The Storm advanced to take on the Shalhevet Firehawks in the quarterfinals and came into the game at a strong disadvantage with an early start time after playing the late game on Thursday. Down by two with under five seconds left in regulation, Kinderlehrer sank two free throws to keep the team’s hopes alive. Seniors Ayden Gurin and Eitan Sulemanoff made some clutch plays in OT and the fans stormed the court after holding on for a 39-36 overtime victory. Up next was the Yeshiva League champion Magen David in the semifinals on Sunday. While the Storm kept up for the first two quarters, they ultimately came up short against the Warriors and earned themselves a spot in Monday morning’s third place consolation game against Flatbush. TABC hung on for the one-point victory and eked out the 67-66 win, led by seniors Shaya Hirsch and David Bitton who finished with 11 and 15 points respectively. This was TABC’s highest ever finish in the Red Sarachek Tournament and they hope to come back even stronger next year as the sophomores move up to varsity and their undefeated 2022-2023 JV team reunites.
