TABC Soccer Sweeps Kushner in Thrilling JV/Varsity Doubleheader

TABC Soccer hosted the Kushner Cobras in a JV/Varsity doubleheader on Tuesday night, April 28, in Teaneck, with both teams looking to stay in control of their destinies.

The JV squad had their work cut out for them, trailing for much of the game. Down by three goals —their largest deficit of the night—in the middle of the third quarter, the freshmen trio of David Linder (returning from injury), Nate Brotsky and David Gampel sparked a Storm comeback.

The final minutes of the game brought a whirlwind of drama. TABC took their first lead since the first half, only for the Cobras to respond off the ensuing kickoff. With under a minute remaining, the Storm had a goal controversially disallowed— but they weren’t done yet. With less than 20 seconds to go, Adiv Rimberg ‘27 sent a pass intended for Brotsky that deflected off a Kushner player for an own goal to win it. Max Berger ‘27 made one last key stop to fend off Kushner’s last push, and the mosh pit stormed the court as TABC secured a wild 9-8 victory. Gampel (the Kushner middle school alum) and Tani Fleischmann ‘27 led the charge with hat tricks.

The TABC Varsity also had to rally from behind, trailing 5-2 at halftime. Whatever Coach Zharnest said in the locker clearly worked. The Storm came back out strong, outscoring Kushner 3-0 in the third quarter to tie the game. In the final frame, Sammy Mohl ‘26 gave TABC its first lead since early in the first quarter—but just like in the JV game, Kushner answered quickly to even the score. Then came the deciding moment: Noam Bieler ‘26 netted the game winner, putting the Storm ahead for good. Kushner fought for an equalizer, but couldn’t get past a stellar, routine performance from Tzvi Gold ‘26 in net. Sammy Levine ‘25 led all scorers with a hat trick in the 7-6 win over the defending champions.
