Last Thursday, May 15, a beautiful luncheon was graciously hosted by co-publishers Moshe Kinderlehrer and Teaneck Mayor Mendy Schwartz, Associate Publisher and Editor-In-Chief Elizabeth Kratz and Managing Editor Jill Kirsch at the recently opened Sheinkin restaurant in Teaneck. The staff writers for The Jewish Link were recognized by the editors and production staff of the paper for their diverse, high-quality and diligent contributions.

Mainly the editorial and core production staff work at the Link headquarters, located in Teaneck. Many of the writing staff work remotely to cover their assignments and events; some have never set foot in the home office, nor had ever met their writing peers! So the lunch was also a welcome opportunity for the writers to meet each other, and for some of the newest members of the team to meet all of the editors and production team members.

After expressing his appreciation to the writers, Moshe also spoke briefly about the future of newspaper publishing and then invited everyone to introduce themselves, their experiences and their role with the paper. Each writer had an intriguing story to share and universally expressed appreciation to Moshe and the editorial and production staff, including Production Editor and Director of Marketing Jen Hoffer, Managing Editor Jill Kirsch and departing Digital Editor Channa Fischer.

If you are a member of the Jewish Link News Alerts on WhatsApp (just this week migrated to community status), Fischer has been the administrator and primary posting source and was also the producer/videographer of the popular Jewish Link podcast, “Pitch Meeting.” Fischer is leaving The Jewish Link to pursue a career in nursing, and we join in wishing her well.

Elizabeth then shared the paper’s perspective on branding itself and what the paper offers via its exposure to a broader readership. Jill expressed her admiration for the amazing connection she experiences with the paper’s core staff and with each of the writers, as she often fills not only her own role, but a variety of others as she steps in when colleagues are out of the office or away.

Those present found Sheinkin’s offerings to be impressive and delicious. The group sampled just about every appetizer on the menu, with thumbs up for the food as well as the service in an elegantly renovated space. The meeting served as Sheinkin’s “soft opening” for lunch, which will debut to the public in about two weeks, according to co-owner Avia Mazaki and his brother Dvir, who is the chef. Currently, Sheinkin is open for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and reservations are strongly encouraged. For those curious about the restaurant’s name and its “Tel Avivian”-style menu offerings, it is named for Menachem Sheinkin, known to be the founder of Tel Aviv.
