Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Last week, in honor of Yud Tet Kislev, the Rosh Hashana of Chassidut, Tenafly Chabad Academy middle school enjoyed a beautiful and meaningful breakfast. Rabbi Lewis led the breakfast, speaking to the students about Chassidut and its connection to the highest level of the soul, the yechida. He shared a personal story about a Tanya (the book of Chassidut) from the Rebbe, followed by an inspirational art video about the story of Yud Tet Kislev.

After the breakfast, seventh and eighth graders went on mivtzoim around town, spreading the light of Chanukah to the Tenafly community. They visited local shops, businesses, senior centers, and the Tenafly Police Department, Fire Department and public library, and gave out menorahs, doughnuts and laid tefillin on the Jews they met. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces and their gratefulness to receive menorahs and gelt effected a strong feeling of Jewish pride in the students. They saw the importance of being proud to be a Jew, reaching out to others and sharing the beauty of Torah and mitzvot with fellow Jews. It was an unforgettable way to celebrate Yud Tet Kislev.
