Tenafly Chabad Academy Embraces Differences

In an engaging and enlightening session of the fifth grade’s Celebrating Differences/Empathy unit, students immersed themselves in hands-on activities designed to simulate various disabilities; they sorted coins while blindfolded, enjoyed applesauce without the use of their hands, and attempted to communicate with marshmallows stuffed in their mouths, all of which fostered a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those with disabilities. To further enrich their learning experience, the students had the privilege of inviting Natalie, a mother of three, who candidly spoke about her personal struggles with Scleroderma. With grace and insight, she shared not only the hurdles she encounters but also her strengths and invaluable advice on how to be genuinely supportive to individuals living with disabilities, leaving the students inspired and more empathetic towards the diverse experiences of others.
