The Idea School faculty and students welcomed visiting students to participate in an outdoor hands-on, interdisciplinary project that gave them a taste of The Idea School educational model. Biology teacher, Sarah Bartges, explained how terrariums are a complete, self-sufficient ecosystem and then the visiting students created their own, even taking a walk on the beautiful JCC campus to find objects to put in them. Rabbi Tavi Koslowe, Judaic Studies principal, followed Bartges’ lesson with a hands-on activity asking students to create their own “Jewish terrariums.” Students considered, among other things, the life- and light-giving properties of the Jewish community, and shared their ideas with the group. The workshops ended with a Q&A session with current sophomore and junior students.
