The society will be honoring Dr. Lawrence and Rosalie Berman, who have given a lifetime of service to the Jewish community in Passaic and Bergen counties, including the Jewish Historical Society of North Jersey.
Larry, a second-generation Patersonian, was chair of the department of medicine at the Barnert Hospital in Franklin Lakes. He has been an officer or a board member of Yavneh Academy, The Frisch School, Gerrard Berman Day School, Federation Endowment Foundation, Daughters of Miriam, Paterson Jewish Senior Apartments, and a Life Trustee of Barnert Trust.
Rosalie, originally from New York, was a teacher in New York and Massachusetts. After a hiatus in her career while raising her family, Rosalie taught at Yavneh Academy for 23 years. Like Larry, Rosalie has spent decades serving the Jewish community. At Yavneh she was president of the parents organization, a board member of the board of education, as well as co-chair of the teachers association. Rosalie was also a volunteer at Federation, where she served on the education committee and was a member of the Circle of Partners board. She is a member of the Glen Rock/Ridgewood Hadassah, a past president of Temple Emanuel, and served as president of the Jewish Community Organization in Wyckoff and the surrounding towns.
The Bermans have lived in Wyckoff since 1969, where they raised their four children. They have 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
