Everyone knows the story of the two women where one said, “Cut the baby in half,” and the other said, “I’d rather have the baby live,” showing who the real mother was.
Similarly, we recently voted on the vice chairman of the Teaneck Democratic Municipal Committee (TDMC), of which there were three candidates: Gervonn Romney-Rice, Alan Sohn and Teresa (Tirtza) Bayewitz. The first round of voting yielded a 12/9/6 result, and as no one received a majority we needed a second vote: a run-off between Gervonn and Alan. Sadly, some who voted for Tirtza initially would rather have Gervonn than Alan, who would have advocated for the Jewish community.
Today, I am afraid we are doing it again with the slates of Tamar Warburg/Dan Park and Yitz Stern/Rosemary Hernandez-Carroll. My biggest fear is the Jewish community splitting the Jewish vote and as a result the incumbents Shama Haider and Ellen Park win. Neither of the incumbents has shown much support for the Jewish Community over the years; they both need to be replaced. Shama Haider couldn’t even commemorate the 75th anniversary of Israel and walked out of the New Jersey session. As such, this election is for two assembly candidates. I am recommending that the Jewish community vote for two candidates who will support all the needs of the Jewish community: Tamar Warburg and Yitz Stern.
In the Torah it says that the Jewish people are weakest when the enemy is “M’itchem,” when we are divided. As such it is time to come together and vote for Tamar Warburg and Yitz Stern.
