Tiferet of Teaneck commemorated Yom HaZikaron with a special memorial program that honored fallen female soldiers of the October 7 attack. The program began with the girls standing in silence for the siren and reciting the Yizkor prayer for soldiers and victims of terror followed by a short video about three fallen soldiers.
Students then read about Cpl. Lior Levy, who was killed when Hamas overran the Urim IDF base on October 7. They learned how Lior volunteered as an EMT and always went out of her way to make her patients feel comfortable. The Tiferet students discussed what characteristics of Lior they try to emulate and how even young people can make a difference in the world around them.
Afterwards, each student picked a name of one of the fallen soldiers and decorated a rock in her honor to add to Tiferet’s 10/7 memorial garden. The students also picked a mitzvah to take on in their soldier’s honor through the Yizkariem: Honor Israel’s Fallen initiative. As a reminder for their hachlata, students decorated flower signs with the name of the soldier, her picture and the mitzvah that they are doing in her honor.
