Valour Atelier to Host Art Exhibit Featuring Frum Female Artists

Artwork by Molly Zimmer

On June 8, Valour Atelier will hold an art exhibit at the Grand Event Space located in the Brookhaven Mall in Passaic featuring an extraordinary line up of female artists — both established and emerging — many of whom will be in attendance to answer questions and explain more about their work.

Gallery curator Shoshana Elisheva Lefkowitz seized this opportunity to showcase the impressive array of artwork from this group of talented women. “It might just be the first time ever that such an idea has come into fruition for female Jewish artists, empowering Jewish women and their opportunity to earn a livelihood from their gift, as well as giving a platform to emerging artists to use their voice, showcasing their talent and introducing them to the world.”

Shoshana Lefkowitz leans toward the creative herself and not only has an extensive background in art, but is also an amateur artist herself who likes to paint and draw, write poetry and perform.

She promised plenty of variety for prospective art buyers, from abstract to realism to contemporary, and everything in between, because she felt that the more variety the show has to offer, the more interesting it will be for everyone who comes. “Each artist has her own unique style and perspective and I appreciate what each artist brings to the table,” she said. There will be all kinds of themes in the artwork: some will feature still life, others will focus on Judaica and biblical themes, while many others will depict ethereal scenes from nature.

There will be many artists in attendance at the show; the following are just a few of the women whose artwork visitors to the exhibit will have the opportunity to view. While only a few are mentioned, the artists each add their own unique flair that can’t be missed. All are invited to attend and enjoy this special showing of female creativity and expression.

Artist Talya Zahler, who on her webpage stated she likes to play with color, using it to set the tone in her works. Zahler paints mesmerizing Judaic scenes including one portrait titled, “Serach Bat Asher,” which is sure to mesmerize anyone who gets the opportunity to see it up close and in person.

Combining modern art with what she calls “timeless tradition,” artist Nechama Finkelstein’s paintings, including “Journey to Torah” and “Flower Cascade,” are sure to inspire and captivate art enthusiasts.

“Kever Rochel — Return of the Shvatim” by artist Miriam Luda Shulman, is an enchanting piece of art that, along with all her other pieces, would elevate any space. She explained online that her artwork is inspired by her deep connection to her Jewish heritage, “blending its mystical elements with the beauty of everyday life.”

Utilizing traditional glasswork with modern resin techniques, “Dancing Chassidim,” a masterful piece by artist Zeldie Lev, is a delightful creation that captures the joyful spirit of the Jewish soul. An native of Israel who now lives in Brooklyn, Lev began her career as a photographer, which taught her “to capture stories in single frame” and whose philosophy she carries into her meticulously crafted mosaics.

Specializing in Judaic art and portraits, artist Rikki Benenfeld said on her website that her great appreciation for truth and beauty in Hashem’s world has been the driving force behind her work. Whether using oil, watercolor or acrylic, Benenfeld’s artwork featuring gedolim, Kriyas Yam Suf and so much more, is sure to excite everyone who sees it.

Artist Aliza Marton, who hails from Los Angeles, said she finds inspiration and sees Hashem’s hand in everything. She likes to create large format paintings because she wants others to feel that they, too, are in the paintings as opposed to just casual observers.

Artwork from Monsey-based artist Shifra Scheinman Crawford has garnered a significant following for her unconventional paintings featuring traditional Jewish subjects and themes that have a magical way of drawing the observer in.

Artist Molly Zimmer, who Shoshana Lefkowitz described as “an exceptional artist who possesses pure talent and has the ability to capture scenes in abstract realism as well as realism with a lot of depth and feeling,” will be featuring her work at the exhibit as well. From landscapes to portraits, Zimmer’s beautifully executed depictions can be described as nothing short of stunning.

The event is free to attend but reservations must be made in advance. Guests will be treated to a painting demonstration by Gitty Lichtenstadter, and Rachel Leifer will be doing wood-burning techniques. There will also be an exciting giveaway as well as a lavish dairy buffet along with a sushi spread.
