Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

On Wednesday this week, WDS students had the privilege of welcoming Rabbi Serels, a valued member of the Westchester Day School family, parent of Diana Serels Schwartz (WDS ‘00), and grandfather to Jordan (eighth grade), Lexi (sixth grade), and Max (third grade). Rabbi Serels delivered an engaging lesson on safrut (the art of writing sifrei Torah, tefillin and mezuzot) for fifth, sixth and seventh graders in preparation for this Sunday’s hachnasat sefer Torah celebration! He explained the meticulous processes of repairing letters and stitching parchment while demonstrating the tools used. Students also participated in hands-on activities like stitching and writing their names in Torah script—an incredible experience for all!
