As WDS middle school prepared to celebrate Thanksgiving, students explored the themes of gratitude through their yom iyun. They were able to choose from many different sessions, such as writing gratitude letters; learning the history behind why the president pardons a turkey on Thanksgiving and the history of the holiday itself; the Jewish concept of hakarat hatov around us; a session of meditation and yoga; and a lesson from Rabbi Ney about “Developing an Attitude of Gratitude.” All while looking ahead towards the idea of light that we will soon be celebrating during Chanukah. Collectively, middle schoolers deepened their appreciation for the holiday of Thanksgiving and all that they are fortunate to have. May all the learning together bring peace to Am Yisrael this Thanksgiving!
