The seventh grade math students applied their understanding of ratios to real-life scenarios through an engaging activity where they mixed different ratios of orange juice to cranberry juice. By experimenting with combinations like 1/4 cup orange juice to 1/2 cup cranberry juice, 1/2 cup orange juice to 3/4 cup cranberry juice, and 1/2 cup of each juice, students observed how the proportions affected the flavor and color of the mixture. This hands-on approach helped them connect mathematical concepts to everyday situations, such as adjusting ingredient quantities in recipes or making custom beverages. The activity not only reinforced their skills in working with ratios but also demonstrated how math is used in practical, real-world contexts.
